The 132 drawing tools Chart Engine ships across nine categories, how magnet and lock behave, and why drawings are saved per symbol while indicators are not.

The drawing toolbar runs down the left edge of the chart. It holds 132 tools in nine categories, and every one of them is drawn by the chart itself onto the same canvas as the candles. Each drawing is anchored to a time and a price, not to a pixel position, so it stays where you put it when you pan, zoom or change timeframe.

The nine categories

Lines — 25 tools

Trend line, ray, extended line, arrow, info line, trend angle, horizontal line, horizontal ray, vertical line, cross line, parallel channel, disjoint channel, Raff channel, regression trend, flat top/bottom, cyclic lines, anchored VWAP, anchored TWAP, OHLC ray, UTC period levels, round number grid, funding grid, speed resistance lines, Tirone levels, quadrant lines.

The channel tools take three points: two to set the base line and a third to set the width. Anchored VWAP and anchored TWAP are line tools rather than indicators because you place the anchor by hand — the average accumulates from the bar you click, not from the start of a session.

The last three divide a range you choose rather than following a trend. Speed resistance lines fan the thirds of a move from its origin; Tirone levels and quadrant lines cut a high–low range into thirds and quarters. Drag either of the last two from the low to the high or from the high to the low — the drawing is the same either way.

Fibonacci — 10 tools

Retracement, extension, fan, arcs, circles, spiral, time zones, channel, wedge, trend-based Fib time.

Retracement and extension are the two you will use daily; the rest exist because traders who want them cannot substitute anything else. Their level ladders are resolved at draw time, so they follow the site theme — see below.

Pitchfork — 5 tools

Andrews' pitchfork, Schiff pitchfork, modified Schiff, inside pitchfork, pitchfan. All five are three-point tools.

The pitchfan is the odd one out: instead of tines running parallel to the median line, it fans rays from the first pivot through proportional divisions of the base, so it reads like a Gann fan anchored to a swing rather than to a corner.

Gann — 6 tools

Gann box, Gann fan, Gann arcs, Gann grid, Gann square, Gann square (fixed).

Shapes — 14 tools

Rectangle, rotated rectangle, ellipse, circle, triangle, arc, sector, curve, S-curve, polygon, polyline, path, brush, highlighter.

Brush and highlighter are continuous: hold the button and drag, and the tool collects points until you release. The rotated rectangle takes a third point for its angle, which is what makes it usable on a trending range.

Circle is not the same tool as ellipse. An ellipse is a box in chart units, so it goes oval as the price axis rescales; a circle stays a circle on screen at every zoom. Curve bows a line through a third anchor, and the curve passes through that anchor rather than being pulled vaguely towards it. Path is a polyline that ends in an arrowhead — the tool for tracing a route you expect price to take.

Patterns — 23 tools

Head and shoulders, double top, double bottom, triangle, wedge, flag, pennant, broadening formation, diamond, cup and handle, ABCD, XABCD, three drives, Wyckoff range, manual zigzag, sine line, time cycles, Elliott wave, and the five labelled Elliott variants: impulse (12345), correction (ABC), triangle (ABCDE), double combo (WXY) and triple combo (WXYXZ).

These are hand-drawn pattern scaffolds — you place the pivots and the tool labels the legs and checks the ratios. Automatic detection is a different feature; see Chart panels.

A pennant is not a flag: a flag consolidates in a parallel channel, a pennant in a converging triangle, and they are separate tools because the measured move is taken differently. XABCD names the harmonic it matches — Gartley, Bat, Butterfly, Crab, Shark or Cypher — from the live leg ratios as you drag D.

Elliott counts carry their wave degree. The five labelled variants take a degree, and the degree changes the notation: uppercase Roman for the top three degrees, Arabic for the middle three, lowercase Roman for the bottom three, each tier circled, parenthesised or bare. That markup is most of what an Elliott count communicates, which is why a corrective count numbered like an impulse is simply wrong — and why the original freeform Elliott wave tool is still here, for counting something that does not fit a named variant. Corrective letters follow the tier's case rather than its glyph, so two different degrees can both print A B C; each drawing therefore labels its own degree.

Crypto — 11 tools

Order block, breaker block, fair value gap, balanced price range, liquidity level, liquidity void, market structure, session range, range equilibrium, optimal trade entry, power of three.

Their own category because that is how they are used: marking a chart up for a session means reaching for this whole group at once, and nobody would think to look for an order block under "shapes".

An order block tracks its own state — fresh until price returns to it, tapped on the first touch, mitigated once price closes through it — and labels itself accordingly, so a zone that has already done its work is distinguishable at a glance from one that has not. A breaker block is the zone that failed: price traded through it, so it works in the opposite direction on a retest, and it labels itself unbroken, broken or retested. Market structure marks breaks of structure and changes of character against the swing it broke.

Every tool in this group reads the whole loaded series from its own anchor, not the part of it currently on screen. A zone that changed its mind about whether it had been mitigated because you scrolled would be worse than no zone at all.

Annotations — 16 tools

Text, anchored text, note, anchored note, price note, callout, balloon, signpost, price label, badge, flag marker, arrow marker, icon marker, emoji marker, table, image.

Text tools open an inline editor on the canvas. Press Esc to finish editing.

Anchored text pins a plain string to a bar with a pixel offset, so it keeps its position relative to the candle rather than to the chart. Table pins a grid — a trade plan you want to keep on the chart rather than in your head. Image places a picture between two corners; it is given a URL rather than uploading one, and it draws a labelled placeholder until it has one.

Measurement — 22 tools

Price range, date range, date and price range, ruler, angle measure, percent change, measured move, bars pattern, ghost feed, forecast, price projection, time projection, risk/reward, long position, short position, scaled position, leveraged position, liquidation ladder, fixed range volume profile, anchored volume profile, fixed range VWAP, TPO / market profile.

Long position, short position and risk/reward draw a target and stop box against an entry, with the ratio calculated for you. The leveraged position adds the liquidation price for a chosen leverage, and the liquidation ladder shows where several leverage tiers would be taken out. They are analysis tools — nothing here places an order, and none of them reads your actual positions.

The scaled position is for a trade you exit in pieces: up to three targets, each with its own share of the size, and the headline number is the blended ratio — the size-weighted reward over the risk — because that is the figure you are actually deciding on. Long or short is taken from where you put the stop, not from the order you clicked.

The two volume profiles differ only in what bounds them: the fixed range profile is bounded by two anchors, the anchored profile runs from one anchor to the live edge and keeps growing. Both bin volume by price and mark the point of control and value area. The TPO profile bins time at price instead — brackets of the session lettered A, B, C — and falls back to drawing bars when the rows get too short for a letter to be readable.

Drawing something

  1. Pick a tool from the toolbar. Categories expand; the tool stays armed until it has enough points.

  2. Click to place each point. Every tool declares how many it needs — one for a horizontal line, two for a trend line, three for a pitchfork or a channel. Continuous tools such as brush collect points while you drag.

  3. Press Esc to abandon a half-finished drawing. Nothing is saved until the tool has its full point count.

  4. The tool disarms itself when the drawing completes, and the cursor returns. That is deliberate: an armed tool that stays armed turns every subsequent click into another drawing.

Once a drawing exists, select it to move it, drag its handles to reshape it, or delete it. Cursor and crosshair at the top of the toolbar are selection modes, not drawing tools — switching to either one disarms whatever was active.

Restyling a drawing

Right-click a drawing for its menu. Alongside duplicate, lock, bring to front and delete, the menu carries a style row — a colour swatch strip, a line-width control and a dash style. Changes apply to the selected drawing immediately and are saved with it.

Undo covers restyling as well as moving and reshaping: one step back returns the drawing to its previous position, shape and style rather than deleting it.

Magnet, undo and clear

Three controls at the bottom of the toolbar act on drawings rather than creating them:

  • Magnet mode snaps the point you are placing to the nearest candle value, so a support line lands exactly on a wick rather than one pixel above it. It is on by default — turn it off when you want a level that does not sit on a bar.
  • Undo and Redo step back and forward through the drawings on the current chart. Both grey out when there is nothing to step to.
  • Remove all drawings clears the current symbol at once. It asks for confirmation first, and it is disabled when there is nothing to clear.

The toolbar prints M, L, Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y next to these controls. No keyboard handler is bound to any of them — the chart is driven with the mouse, touch and the toolbar. Esc is the only key the chart actually listens for.

Where drawings are stored

Drawings save under a key that includes the symbol, so BTC/USDT's trend lines do not appear on ETH/USDT. Indicators do the opposite — one global list for the whole app. This asymmetry is intentional and it is the thing people get wrong when they expect a workspace to be one object.

Both live in the browser's local storage, on that device only. Nothing is synchronised to the server, nothing follows the account to another machine, and clearing site data deletes them.

The save is automatic and immediate. Creating, editing or deleting a drawing rewrites the whole set for that symbol, so there is no "save" button and no way to lose work by navigating away. Deleting the last drawing on a symbol removes the key entirely rather than storing an empty list.

If you want a reusable arrangement rather than per-symbol marks, use chart templates, which capture indicators, drawings, chart type and timeframe together and can be applied to any market.

Fibonacci colours follow the theme

Fibonacci drawings used to write their complete level-colour ladder into their own saved state. Any drawing made before that changed would have kept the old palette permanently while everything around it moved on.

Defaults are now resolved when the drawing is painted, and only colours a user explicitly picked are stored. Existing drawings follow the theme like new ones.

The ladder itself was also rebuilt. It used to be a fourteen-hue rainbow in which two levels shared a colour and nothing indicated which way the ladder ran. It is now two sequential lightness ramps with the 0 and 1 anchors on neutral ink, so the ordering survives colour-vision deficiency — and it no longer borrows the candles' own up and down colours, which mean something else on a price chart.

Limits and gotchas

A drawing anchored off-screen still exists

Drawings are anchored to time and price, not to pixels. Pan far enough away and a drawing leaves the viewport entirely — it has not been deleted. Use Reset view in the toolbar to jump back to the current time.

Switching timeframe keeps your drawings

Drawings are stored against the symbol, not the timeframe, so a trend line drawn on 5m is still there on 1h. It will look different, because the same two anchor points span a different number of candles.

There are no keyboard shortcuts for tools

The chart is driven with the mouse, touch and the toolbar. Esc cancels the in-progress drawing and closes any open overlay panel; nothing else is bound, including the shortcut hints printed on the toolbar buttons.

Remove all is per symbol

It clears the current symbol's drawings only, after a confirmation prompt. Take a screenshot from the toolbar first if the analysis matters.

A drawing tool never places an order

Long position, short position and risk/reward look like order tickets and are not. They draw a target and stop box against an entry and calculate the ratio. Placing the trade is the order form's job.
